How We Keep Our Learners Safe

We make sure everyone feels safe, happy, and respected at college.

  • Staff are trained to spot signs if someone is worried or upset.
  • We have clear rules to protect learners from harm.
  • Learners are supported in ways that meet their individual needs.
  • We listen to learners and take their concerns seriously.

The Safeguarding Team

These are the people who help keep everyone safe:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) – the main person in charge of safeguarding.
  • Deputy DSLs – they help the DSL and are also trained to support learners.
  • All staff – everyone at college has a role in keeping learners safe.

Safeguarding Curriculum

How We Teach Learners to Keep Themselves Safe We teach learners how to stay safe in everyday life.

  • Lessons on online safety, healthy relationships, and mental wellbeing.
  • Real life learning out in the community and in work placements.
  • Role-play and stories to help learners understand risks.
  • Focussed interventions offered 1-1 or to small groups.
  • Peer support through the NHS Ambassadors Scheme.
  • Clear, simple language and visuals to support learning.

Safeguarding Activities

As well as the learning completed in lesson times and off-site learning, our students will learn about keeping themselves safe:

  • Workshops with visitors like police, NSPCC or health workers.
  • Focus days e.g. on-line safety, World Mental Health Day.
  • Student Voice activities e.g. questionnaires.
  • Posters and displays around college with safety tips.

Safeguarding Partners

We work with other people to help keep learners safe.

  • Parents and carers – we share information and work together.
  • Social workers, Police and health professionals – they support learners with extra needs.
  • Local safeguarding boards – they advise us on the law and the correct processes to follow.
